Our designers were in town last week to celebrate the tenth year of Clerkenwell Design Week (www.clerkenwelldesignweek.com). CDW is always a great time to gather inspiration, see new products, installations and exhibits, take part in seminars and discussions all things design.
We are big fans of vibrant colour and materials. This trend was really evident this year with some striking use of colour combinations and pattern – some nostalgic and some unapologetically bold.
We were glad to see a big emphasis on sustainability with plenty of suppliers presenting environmentally friendly products and materials. We love Silicastone from www.panaz.com Sequel by Alusid UK (www.parkside.co.uk) which is made from 98% recycled materials.
Discussions on “The Future of Hotel Design” included Toto’s “washlet” toilet which incorporates water saving technologies and eliminates the use of toilet paper (www.toto.com). We are ready to embrace the “toilet of the future”.
The Light event held at Fabric incorporated all of the above with some beautiful products. Whimsical balloon style pendants from Curiousa and Curiousa (curiousa.co.uk) were stunning and we are now massive fans of all of Lyngard’s Staffordshire made and inspired pottery light fittings which cleverly mix a luxurious and contemporary feel (www.lyngard.com).
After all the inspiration, design chat and a successful game of deckchair hockey (5-2 to Jones AD) we finished our day pretty exhausted but eager to incorporate some new ideas and products into our latest projects!
