A fresh new look for an iconic riverside location

Our latest project for Hilton Hotels included refurbishment of the lobby, meeting rooms, restaurant and guest WCs of the striking Hilton Newcastle Gateshead hotel. Our design was inspired by the hotel’s stunning riverside location with panoramic views of the iconic Tyne Bridge.

Wonderful feedback

“We’re delighted with the new look and particularly with the way that the design flows through the meeting and events spaces, restaurant and lobby. Having been impressed with how Jones AD completed the refurbishment of the meeting rooms initially, we engaged Abi and team to assist with the other areas in a phased approach. Although this essentially became three separate mini projects, we love how unified they feel now, with a consistent design across these key guest areas.”

Contemporary design, clear impact

The full height glazing that spans much of the customer space is clearly impactful and allows guests to be fully immersed within the landscape, but poses a challenge to create an interior that still feels welcoming and cosy.

We specified new furniture, finishes, feature lighting and artwork to give a fresh, contemporary look. Soft furnishings and specially-selected fabrics and materials help add atmosphere and warmth.

Making it work: meeting and event space with a flexible flow

The hotel’s location in the heart of Newcastle makes it a popular destination for corporate events, entertainment and meetings. Our design included a full refurbishment of the meeting & event space with a design that flows from the smallest room to the largest space at over 600sqm, including a dedicated bar.

A warm welcome: adding atmosphere

The large lobby is at the heart of the hotel – a busy space, it sets the tone for guests on arrival and throughout their stay. We introduced rugs, upholstered furniture & bespoke screens to create welcoming zones and add atmosphere. Timber and stone cladding add warmth and improve acoustics, making the lobby a more appealing place to spend time and a useful area for the hotel from an operational perspective

Form & function: bespoke design

The hotel’s riverside restaurant is a large space that’s busy throughout the day, catering for larger groups as well as solo diners. Our new design adds intimacy and atmosphere, with bespoke banquettes to add operational flexibility and allow for a swift, smooth change of layout as required.

Striking new feature lighting visually lowers the eyeline from the vast ceiling heights, with the brushed brass finish echoed elsewhere in the restaurant and lobby space. A palette of burgundy, deep blue and ochre is used throughout the interior to add warmth and depth to what was previously a cold, open space
