Major refurbishment of the theatre’s auditorium
We first met the vibrant and enthusiastic team at The New Vic Theatre back in 2015 when our project focused on new designs for the bar, restaurant and foyer – all important areas for revenue generation and used by many of the 150,000 people with whom the theatre engages each year. We are really proud to have helped sympathetically update the interior that had changed very little since it first opened in the 1980s. We commissioned bespoke light fittings to feature sketches from the Theatre’s archive and incorporated purpose-built displays of props from past performances.
After the success of this project, the team invited us last year to assist with the design of a major refurbishment of the theatre’s auditorium which again had not been altered since the theatre’s original construction.
Warm & welcoming
The refurbishment work was carefully planned to fit within tight budget and the project team has found much be proud of. The theatre was lucky to able to invite socially-distanced audiences into performances of Ghostlight and Keep Calm and Carry On Eric for the chance to experience the new look and it was wonderful to hear the positive feedback from so many guests on the work undertaken.
Wonderful feedback
“We chose Jones architecture + design because their response to our brief really demonstrated that they understood both the opportunities and the constraints of our project, and they were enthusiastic from the start about allowing us to bring a bit of our on-stage theatricality out into our front of house areas. We were delighted with the concepts that Abi Perry-Jones created for us and we gained so much from her practical industry knowledge. This Facebook comment from a customer sums up our feelings about the finished project”
“Wow! What a transformation! It looks amazing!”
