Full refurbishment of a historic pub
Part of the Wells & Co family, The Old School House is a Grade II Listed pub set in the heart of Stoney Stratford. The building started life as St Mary’s Church School back in 1873 and later became a The Plough public house in 1937.
The new design and refurbishment was part of a relaunch of the pub as “The Old School House”. After working our clients on the evolution of the brand we were clear that the interior required an exciting and vibrant feel as a backdrop to the new food and drinks menu and service style.
We introduced a new layout with a mix of seating styles and designed a bold colour palette of aqua blue, soft teal and coral pink teamed with traditional tan and chestnut. This is featured in fabrics and finishes including a bespoke wallpaper and fabric pattern which we incorporated within wall panelling, upholstery and light shades.
We are particularly proud of the design for the female WC area. Here we identified an unused roof void above and were able to open this up to create an impactful double height space with oversized feature rattan lighting. With marble effect tiles, bold colours and planting, the space has become an Instagram-able hot spot.
The pub is now a bright and vibrant space to drink and dine and is receiving great reviews from the client and customers alike. The Old School House signature cocktails and small sharing plates have become big hits and the feature booth complete with neon lighting and a plant wall is most certainly the most popular place to sit.
