Embracing technology

BIM (Building Information Modelling/ Management)

We have made a substantial investment in the adoption of BIM technology and embraced it wholeheartedly throughout the business.

BIM is the process of generating and managing building data through the use of a 3D building model, or virtual building.  In essence, BIM provides a single origin for all information associated with a building.  Specifications, take-offs and schedules can coexist in a single ‘virtual building’ that encapsulates everything known about the building from beginning to end.

Using BIM, Jones AD can facilitate the coordination and documentation of information more easily, while delivering the project faster and more efficiently.  This practical method of management eliminates many of the uncertainties found during the construction phase.  Use of BIM means that any issues can be found during the design phase of the project and addressed then so that they do not occur during the actual construction phase.  Any changes during construction will automatically be updated to BIM and then made and retained in the model.

Virtual Exploration

Using our new BIM Explorer software, we can explore project designs in a 3D environment that supports real-time 3D navigation.

Clients, stakeholders, contractors, consultants and planning authorities can easily explore design concepts and alternatives during this unique walkthrough experience in a professionally-rendered 3D navigation environment. The easy-to-use, familiar 3D navigation interface is similar to those used in computer games.

Collaboration & Sharing

We can now share our architectural projects with ease and at any stage of the project.  Stakeholders can receive a single, executable file and view the interactive, 3D presentation package on iPads, iPhones and using both Windows and Mac platforms.

Through Open BIM collaboration, we support a transparent, open workflow, allowing project members to participate regardless of the software tools they use.  We take this universal approach to collaborative design, and to the realisation and operation of buildings based on open standards and workflows with fellow professionals, in order to facilitate the best communication with the project team, and to gain further efficiencies.  In the same vein, we can also provide enduring project data for use throughout the asset life–cycle, avoiding multiple input of the same data and consequential errors.

Although we have adopted BIM, we still operate 2D AutoCAD to ensure importing and exporting from our main system works seamlessly with fellow professionals still working in 2D CAD.

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) represents professionals working and studying in the field of Architectural Technology and is internationally recognised. CIAT qualifies Chartered Architectural Technologists, MCIAT and professionally qualified Architectural Technicians, TCIAT.

Jones AD is a registered CIAT Practice

CSCS – Construction Skills Certification Scheme

CSCS was set up in the mid-90s with the aim of improving site workers’ competence to reduce accidents and drive up on-site efficiences.

The Scheme keeps a database of those working in construction that achieve, or can demonstrate they have already attained an agreed level of occupational competence. Successful applicants are issued with a card giving them a means of identification and proof of their achievements. Cards are increasingly demanded as evidence of occupational competence by contractors, public and private clients and others, and today there are over 1.7 million cards in circulation.

All staff at Jones AD have undergone a rigorous Health, Safety & Environment test and currently hold a professionally qualified person card.
